Merry Christmas by Eva D. Geiger / ikenobo.de

Christmas is in the air. It smells of pine trees, biscuits and mulled wine. Christmas trees are everywhere, beautifully decorated with candles or fairy lights, stars and baubles. December has even brought us snow this year. Just yesterday, thick white snowflakes fell from the sky. It's a contemplative time of year when, after the hustle and bustle and Christmas preparations, there are still some quiet days left. You can make yourself cosy, enjoy the candlelight and the winter idyll. Nature also comes to rest. Fir, pine and spruce, as well as evergreen plants, add a little colour to the otherwise often grey-brown winter landscape. Here and there a little splash of colour emerges.

With the splashes of colour in this Christmas combination, I would like to say thank you for the many wonderful hours and moments in the year that is drawing to a close and hope that we will once again have wonderful Ikebana hours together next year. This Ikebana in unconventional shades of pink is intended to express lightness and joy - which certainly plays a major role for all of us in these times. Two black Christmas baubles, which are held in place on the dai (base) by the pink-coloured, twisted wire and filled with water, serve as a vessel. The dai connects this Ikebana combination so that the baubles appear as a unit. I wish this unity of different worlds, perspectives and beliefs for all of us.

Perhaps Ikebana can play a part in making the world a little more peaceful, beautiful and 'lighter'. With this in mind: Merry Christmas and a happy new year 2024.
